Sectors & Services
These are our core sectors and services, occasionally provided alongside our associates.
We offer strong project management skills across a range of regeneration, planning and design projects, leading both internal teams and externally with professionals from other consultancies. This project management extends to liaison and joint-working on the client side with public sector officers and organisations.
Recent work includes managing and coordinating the production of the evidence base to support the LB Tower Hamlets Managing Development DPD and the Fish Island Area Action Plan, which included managing external commissions, leading on internally produced projects, and producing bespoke pieces of planning research and evidence.
Municipal Projects have contributed to masterplans and planning frameworks, with roles including project management and leading on the research and planning elements for masterplans, planning frameworks and development studies. Projects have been undertaken in a range of contexts including town centres, residential neighbourhoods, industrial and employment areas and regeneration areas.
In 2010 we completed a Framework for Southall, a town centre planning framework which identified development principles for key areas for redevelopment, and strategic policies and projects across a range of themes including transport, retail, public realm, and employment.
We have considerable experience of researching, designing and writing policy documents, reports, research papers and master plans for both professional and non-professional audiences. I have developed planning policy at strategy at the local and regional level, as well as involvement in national policy guidance and research.
Examples of recent work include contributing to the Fish Island Area Action Plan, which provides land use guidance and development principles for Fish Island in Tower Hamlets, a former industrial area adjacent to the Olympic Park.
Consultation and Engagement
We have contributed to a number of consultation and engagement strategies, including involving local people and organisations on both policy documents, and more specific area based strategies and plans. We have experience of working with a range of representatives from local and central government, council members, voluntary organisations, private companies, community representatives, as well as the general public. This involves understanding often conflicting priorities, managing expectations through the process, and integrating these into outputs.
We recently contributed to the engagement process on the Fish Island Area Action Plan and the Managing Development Development Plan Document. This involved making strategic policies relevant to local people and their neighbourhoods, though an explanation of both the policy, its justification, and how it would impact upon neighbourhoods through explaining it in relation to the development management process.
Research & Strategy
We have undertaken a range of research assignments covering planning policy, regeneration, economics and transport. This has included designing research methodologies, utilising a range of data sources, analysing findings to inform policy and writing reports and presenting outputs.
We recently project managed a number of research studies on behalf of LB Tower Hamlets, including a review of all its town centre boundaries and employment areas, and a study into how planning policy can contribute to healthy lifestyles through the effective management and control of land uses deemed to be detrimental to health, such as hot food takeaways.
We have produced Infrastructure Plans for LB Tower Hamlets, LB Ealing, and have contributed to Infrastructure Plans for LB Croydon and Cherwell District Council (as part of the CIL Knowledge partnership).
We have delivered Infrastructure Plans that compliant for Local Development Frameworks and the Community Infrastructure Levy. We also believe that infrastructure planning has an important corporate role, providing the spatial basis on which Council’s can plan and programme their capital expenditure, taking a more strategic view to service planning.
We offer interim resourcing to public sector clients, providing a flexible offer to meet clients requirements, for short or longer term engagements in the planning and regeneration sectors.
We recently have completed a commission within the planning policy team at LB Tower Hamlets, which included a range of responsibilities and projects including contributing to and managing a number of studies which were part of the evidence base for the LDF, representing the Borough in planning for the Olympic Legacy, producing an Area Action Plan and contributing to the preparatory works for the introduction of the Community Infrastructure Levy.
